On 13 April 2023, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”)’s waste management-arm, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (“AFSB”) launched a ‘Bawa Pulang Sampah Anda’ campaign that aims at encouraging the practice of bringing garbage home to minimise litters and unrecyclable waste on the streets. The launch ceremony was held at the Bazaar Ramadhan D’Harmoni in Precint 9, Putrajaya and was officiated by Alam Flora’s Chief Operating Officer Azahari Zainal Abidin and Vice President of Putrajaya Corporation Tuan Haji Nik Shukri Nik Soh.
Speaking during the launch, Azahari hopes that by cultivating the culture of self-responsibility, it will instill awareness on the importance of keeping a clean and green environment.
“Every time Ramadhan comes around especially during the third week, we can see a significant growth in domestic waste collection. This year, we collected 37,000 tonnes per day (“TPD”) of waste in Kuala Lumpur alone which is a 16% increase from last’s year waste TPD of only 34,000. Meanwhile, ther was an increase of 1% of total waste collected (2,075 TPD) compared to 2022 (2,060 TPD) in Putrajaya, and a decrease of 2% of domestic waste collected in Pahang from 14,437 TPD to 14,410 TPD.”
“Our objective is always to ensure the traders and vendors, as well as the public remain vigilant of how much waste they are disposing to maintain cleanliness in public spaces especially in the areas where people break their fast”, he added.
Additionally, Alam Flora also had the opportunity to distribute 500 ‘bubur lambuk’ in reusable containers to the public who visited Ramadan Bazar D'Harmoni, Precinct 9, Putrajaya.
This campaign is in line with Malakoff and Alam Flora’s commitment towards UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities where both organisations pledge to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
