Lumut Power Plant Safety Week 2024: Promoting Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibility

24 December 2024

From 2 to 5 December, Lumut Power Plant (“LPP”) hosted its annual Safety Week 2024, an initiative dedicated to enhancing awareness and commitment to health, safety and environmental practices in the workplace.

Throughout the week, staff participated in a series of engaging activities, talks and interactive sessions. Safety Week commenced with a beach-cleaning activity, where staff collaborated to remove litter, fostering environmental responsibility and teamwork. An impressive 900 kg of rubbish was collected, showcasing a collective effort to care for the planet.

The activity continued with the Mental Stress Talk by KPJ Seri Manjung Psychiatrist, Dr Mohd Shah Mat Esa, offering valuable insights into the importance of mental well-being and coping strategies. It also highlighted the recognition of stress triggers and their impact on physical and emotional health. The first day concluded with health screenings, providing participants with vital health checks, including blood pressure, glucose levels and BMI measurements to promote proactive health management.

On the second day, the Beach Run activity brought together 60 participants, encouraging physical fitness and camaraderie. The week featured additional engaging sessions, such as a Health Talk, a JPAM presentation on home safety measures and the dangers of venomous snakes, a Safety Drill and a Ceramah PERKESO focusing on workplace safety and employee welfare.

The LPP Safety Week 2024 concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony, officiated by the Timbalan Pengarah Operasi Jabatan Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan (“JKKP”) Perak, Encik Basharuddin Abd Rahman. The ceremony was attended by LPP Plant Manager, Encik Anwar Faisal and the Head of Group Safety, Dr. Ramizu Abdul Rahim. Awards were presented to seven staff members and in-house contractors recognised as ‘Safety Warriors’ for their dedication to safety, along with appreciation gifts.

This initiative is part of Malakoff's commitment towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal (“SDG”) No. 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, which aims to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. It is also aligned with Malakoff’s overarching purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.
