Malakoff Holds HSSE Week at Tanjung Bin, Lumut and Prai

28 November 2019

The Malakoff HSSE Week 2019 that aimed to encourage safety practices at work and promote a work-life balance among staff, was held between 3 - 9 November 2019 at Tanjung Bin Power Plant (TBPP) and Tanjung Bin Energy Power Plant (TBEPP), 19 - 25 November 2019 at Lumut Power Plant (LPP) and 25 - 29 November 2019 at Prai Power Plant (PPP).

At TBPP and TBEPP, the activities kicked off on 3 November 2019 with an MTB Bike Fun Ride with a distance of 40km that saw the participation of 450 cyclists, followed by a Table Top Emergency Response Chemical Spillage on 4 November that intends to sharpen the staff’s capabilities during emergencies.

At LPP, a more educational approach was taken as staff were enlightened with talks in relation with work safety and staff’s overall personal wellness. A series of awareness talks were held, specifically on “Scaffolding Safety” on 19 November, followed by “Introduction to Ergonomics” by a medical officer from Hospital Seri Manjung on 21 November 2019.

LPP HSSE Officer, Prem Kumar Govindasamy, also presented a talk on "Confined Space Work and Competency Registration Through MYKPP" on 22 November 2019 and a talk on diet by a Diet Counsellor from Hospital Pantai Manjung.

At PPP, the HSSE Week commenced with a blood donation drive that drew approximately 40 participants on 25 November 2019. A health talk on ‘"Kidney and Diabetes" conducted by a medical officer was also held in an effort to create awareness on the dangers of diabetes and the importance of caring for one’s kidneys.

The staff also took part in an "Electrical Fire & Rescue at Night" drill to better prepare themselves during emergency, and attended a safety talk by a director of Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN). To ensure that their knowledge were up to mark, they participated in a HSSE quiz, a fire fighting competition and a demonstration on First Aid and CPR that were held throughout the week.

Indeed, none of these activities would have been made successful without the effort and commitment shown by all staff who took the time to participate. En Razali Wan Teh, Assistant Vice President of Group HSSE Operations expressed his gratitude to everyone and pointed out that “our excellent HSSE track record is a collective effort by everyone. It shows that our continuous effort to promote HSSE awareness leaves a good impact on them and instills the culture of ‘Work Safe, Get Home Safe’ as per this year’s tagline.”
