Malakoff Corporation Berhad ("Malakoff") organised its annual 'Karnival Sukan Rakyat' on 9 November 2024 at Padang Sekolah Kebangsaan Segari in Segari, Lumut and on 7 December 2024 at Balai Penghulu Mukim Serkat in Pontian, Johor, for its local communities. Aimed at fostering relations between Malakoff and local communities, the carnival also raised awareness among younger generations about the importance of preserving traditional games. The event was attended by the Plant Manager of Lumut Power Plant (“LPP”), Encik Anwar Faisal Mohamed Din in Segari and Malakoff’s Corporate Affairs Section Head, Encik Yuha Ismail, in Pontian. It successfully attracted participation from various levels of the community.
The event began with participants warming up for the day’s activities, which included traditional games such as the sack race, spinning top, Jong, coconut bowling, musical chairs and tug of war. These activities showcased their skills, fostering unity, teamwork and friendly competition, while also providing an opportunity to reconnect with cultural traditions and build meaningful connections across all ages.
The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where winners were recognised for their exceptional performances and perseverance throughout the activities. The ceremony marked the end of a day filled with shared traditions and connections.
This event is part of Malakoff's commitment towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal (“SDG”) No. 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. It is also aligned with Malakoff’s overarching purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.
