This year, Malakoff Corporation Berhad ("Malakoff") took part in the 6th International Sustainable Energy Summit ("ISES") 2024, a biennial event held from 20 – 21 August 2024, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The summit's theme, "Accelerating Energy Transition Through Innovation," focused on the urgent need to fast-track the transition to sustainable energy through innovative solutions. The event was inaugurated by Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation ("PETRA"), Yang Amat Berhormat ("YAB") Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof.
Malakoff was the Gold sponsor for the summit.
This two-day event brought together over 5,000 participants and 73 exhibitors, featuring 8 in-depth workshops. Over the years, the summit has addressed crucial topics related to energy transition including the expansion of sustainable energy deployment, the complexities of energy policies, grid management with high solar photovoltaic penetration, innovative energy storage solutions, rural electrification and financing for sustainable energy projects. ISES serves as a platform for industry leaders to exchange insights and foresight, enriching the conversation about the future of energy.
Malakoff showcased its three business pillars - Malakoff Green Solutions, Malakoff Environmental Solutions and Malakoff Energy - at ISES 2024. The stand featured Malakoff electric vehicle ("EV") charging stations and solar panels, as well as interactive multimedia showcasing its core businesses and expertise. In his opening remarks, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah emphasised Malaysia's commitment to a low-carbon future, aligned with its goal of achieving Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050. With the energy sector contributing nearly 80% of the country’s 259 million tonnes of annual greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to cleaner energy is a critical necessity. The Government aims to increase Renewable Energy (“RE”) capacity to 40% by 2035 and 70% by 2050, up from the current 26%. Malakoff and Alam Flora are committed to this vision by expanding their RE portfolio and maximising existing assets to position ourselves as global leaders in energy and environmental solutions.
Malakoff’s participation in ISES 2024 is testament to our dedication to minimising our environmental footprint, developing RE solutions and promoting environmental stewardship in line with the Government’s target to cut 45% of carbon intensity by 2030 and increase the RE capacity mix to 70% by 2050. It is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (“UN SDG”) No. 7 which ensures access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and aligned with its overarching purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.
