- Malakoff Participates in the 6th International Sustainable Energy Summit 2024
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Participates in the 6th International Sustainable Energy Summit 2024 19 September 2024 This year, Malakoff Corporation Berhad ("Malakoff") took part in the 6th International Sustainable Energy Summit ("ISES") 2024, a biennial event held from 20 – 21 August 2024, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The summit's theme, "Accelerating Energy Transition Through Innovation," focused on the urgent need to fast-track the transition to sustainable energy through innovative solutions. The event was inaugurated by Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation ("PETRA"), Yang Amat Berhormat ("YAB") Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof. Malakoff was the Gold sponsor for the summit. This two-day event brought together over 5,000 participants and 73 exhibitors, featuring 8 in-depth workshops. Over the years, the summit has addressed crucial topics related to energy transition including the expansion of sustainable energy deployment, the complexities of energy policies, grid management with high solar photovoltaic penetration, innovative energy storage solutions, rural electrification and financing for sustainable energy projects. ISES serves as a platform for industry leaders to exchange insights and foresight, enriching the conversation about the future of energy. Malakoff showcased its three business pillars - Malakoff Green Solutions, Malakoff Environmental Solutions and Malakoff Energy - at ISES 2024. The stand featured Malakoff electric vehicle ("EV") charging stations and solar panels, as well as interactive multimedia showcasing its core businesses and expertise. In his opening remarks, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah emphasised Malaysia's commitment to a low-carbon future, aligned with its goal of achieving Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050. With the energy sector contributing nearly 80% of the country’s 259 million tonnes of annual greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to cleaner energy is a critical necessity. The Government aims to increase Renewable Energy (“RE”) capacity to 40% by 2035 and 70% by 2050, up from the current 26%. Malakoff and Alam Flora are committed to this vision by expanding their RE portfolio and maximising existing assets to position ourselves as global leaders in energy and environmental solutions. Malakoff’s participation in ISES 2024 is testament to our dedication to minimising our environmental footprint, developing RE solutions and promoting environmental stewardship in line with the Government’s target to cut 45% of carbon intensity by 2030 and increase the RE capacity mix to 70% by 2050. It is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (“UN SDG”) No. 7 which ensures access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and aligned with its overarching purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.

- Malakoff Plants 500 Trees Towards A Greener Earth
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Plants 500 Trees Towards A Greener Earth 5 October 2018 Malakoff Corporation Berhad, in collaboration with Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya, organised “Program Penanaman Pokok Malakoff-MPSJ” which took place at Taman Kejiranan Putra Bahagia 8/3K in Putra Heights on 6 October 2018. The programme, supported by Yayasan Hijau (YaHijau) and officiated by YBhg. Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar bin Yahaya, Secretary General, Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), aimed to increase the amount of green space per capita from 11 square metres in 2010 to 14 square metres by 2020 under the Greener Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley Project. The weather looked promising, as around 150 participants of all ages consisting of Malakoff staff and the residents of Taman Putra Bahagia 8/3K, Putra Heights, Selangor gathered to plant a tree for the cause in their bid to create awareness on environmental conservation to the future generation, in line with Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to the environment. Out of the 500 saplings sponsored by Malakoff, 150 were planted at the park from a variety of 16 trees such as Tamarindus indica (Tamarind), Annona muricata (Soursop), Laburnum x watereri (Golden Chain) and Maniltoa browneoides (Handkerchief tree), to name a few. In his welcoming speech, Malakoff CEO, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said that “Malakoff’s contribution and participation in environmental conservation and community initiatives is nothing new as we have been involved in campaigns for green living, recycling and healthy lifestyle within the community.” “We hope that with this tree planting programme, a continuation of the Government’s ‘Campaign to Plant 26 Million Trees’ that aims to absorb 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, will create a starting point for the community to assist the Government in managing the effects from climate change that is currently affecting the world,” he added. Yang Dipertua of MPSJ, Hajah Noraini Roslan stated that the tree planting programme is part of the initiatives by the Council to increase the carbon dioxide absorption rate, and subsequently reduce the greenhouse effects and global warming. Dato Seri Dr. Mohd. Azhar commended Malakoff’s effort towards environmental conservation by sponsoring events such as this. “We hope that more corporations will follow what Malakoff is undertaking in supporting our campaign for a greener and more sustainable environment.” Among the youngest participants of the day, Irfan Aiman Roziai, 10, came as early as 8 a.m. to the park to take part in the programme. “I am thrilled to be able to plant my own tree and play my part in making a greener Earth.”

- Program Melentur Buluh – forming good habits among the young
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Program Melentur Buluh – forming good habits among the young 15 November 2011 Kalau nak melentur buluh, biarlah dari rebungnya is an old Malay proverb which shares the wisdom that should one wish to bend bamboo, tis’ best it be done when the plant is young and pliant. With this in mind, the young-at-heart & still very flexible team undergoing Malakoff’s Leadership Development Programme chose to initiate a fun, educational programme at Sek. Rendah Kebangsaan Andek Mori, Serkat over in Pontian, Johor bright and early mid school week. A neighbouring facility to the Malakoff-owned Tanjung Bin Power Plant, this school is one of the Company’s ten adopted schools nationwide. It was selected in support of Malakoff CSR initiatives or better known as the Malakoff Community Partnerships. It was a flurry of activities as Malakoff employees from its nearby plant also joined in the fray, making the total number of volunteers, teachers and children some 350 pax on event day! Also present to lend their strong support were En. Jainuddin, Senior Vice President, representing Malakoff’s Management team, En. Fauzan, representing the Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah, En Zaini, Penghulu Mukim Serkat, En Hamid Awaluddin & En Samad of Jabatan Bomba Pontian as well as the eloquent and friendly Sargeant Pn. Armila & Cik Azlina of Jabatan Polis Pontian. After gathering in the carpark behind the school hall, the children were divided into groups. Younger ones were given easier tasks like weeding patches in little gardens. Older ones were given "tougher" jobs like painting the assembly platform and library walls. Others were seen re-furbishing notice boards in the corridors and tables in the school library. And a select group was charged to diligently sort and arrange new books generously donated by Malakoff and supporters, onto waiting library racks. A Book Donation Drive carried out company-wide prior to this event day yielded a collection of some 450 books worth approximately RM7,000. Oh, the joy on the faces of the young librarians as they excitedly ripped open boxes and uncovered treasures within! After stacking the books neatly on the shelves, these proud librarians confidently shared this will surely draw more of their friends to visit and enjoy these latest literary offerings. After all that weeding, shoveling, scraping, cutting, pasting and painting, hungry children and adults alike were treated to a sumptuous spread of yummy local fare at the school canteen. Tasted just the way Mom & Grandma prepare it in kampong… Bellies full, the children then trooped off happily with their teachers and visitors to the Hall for the next round of activities. Aimed at creating an awareness of common (good) values or nilai-nilai murni among school children from an early age, this LDP Group chose to get such messages across via social activities. Besides promoting the healthy reading habit by donating books of interest and refurbishing the library together with the children, the next part of the programme provided children with a platform to showcase their talent as well as stress the importance of road safety and precautions one can take in the event of a fire. We were all highly impressed with the talent displayed when select children with learning disabilities took to the stage. They performed a series of local dances to great applause. The crowd was also treated to a medley of popular tunes by one of the students on an electric organ. And the unexpected highlight was the impassioned choral reading in English from an 8-year student. She turned out to be one of the finalists in the recent nationwide choral reading competition which was funded in part by Malakoff. Bravo! Given that this is a rural area and that many students came to school on either motorcycles with their parents or older family members or simply cycled in themselves, the Group sought to provide useful, practical safety tips for these students and teachers alike. It is hoped that the interactive lecture by Police Sargent Puan Armila and the exciting fire extinguishing demo session led by En. Hamid from the local Fire Department will have inspired the children to be responsible for safety on the road, in school and at home. And that they will also use the brand-new battery-operated blinkers & bicycle bells they received as door gifts, when they are next on the roads. This project was another great platform for Malakoff employees to demonstrate the Company’s firm commitment to being a caring organization and a good neighbour to schools and community folk in locations where it operates. And having lots of fun while at it! Well done to the LDP Group championing this project and THANK YOU to the rest of Malakoff staff and friends for their generous contribution in terms of books, time and physical presence!
- Malakoff Penang Run 2009
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Penang Run 2009 16 June 2009 It was a cool morning, the air was still and filled with anxiety. It's 4.30am and runners were already seen walking around the Youth Park, anxiously waiting for the event to start. The second edition of Malakoff 26km Penang Run 2009 attracted not only serious athletes but also casual runners with the introduction of the 6km distance event. One Day to D-Day It was a hot morning, typical island weather but the participants, who came to collect their racing bib numbers, did a quick last-minute shopping at the Powerbar and Quick-sports booths and tried the anti-inflammatory cream, Counterpain. The place was buzzing with excitement as the event organizer crew were busy installing barriers to guard the race site parameters and erecting tents for the VIPs, secretariat, and runners chatting away with friends, comparing notes and also commenting on their training routines. While some busily packing the gifts like a bottle of multivitamins, finisher's medal, and food coupons for the finishers. Basically, it was like a mini kenduri kahwin, minus the bride and groom! D-Day 4.30am - We arrived at event ground. Everything is ready to go. Runners tied the timing chips to their shoes, with sweat from a short dash for warm-up while we were try to relax by posing for the camera. Ah, what better way to release the tension and not thinking too much of the run. 5 minutes countdown - We walked anxiously to the starting line. Runners were given pink ribbons to prove that they actually started at the Start line, not halfway along the route. 10 seconds to flag-off at 5.30am - Fingers prepped on their stopwatches, getting ready to time their racing duration. As soon as the horn was blown, the runners for the 26km event dashed to start the run. Beeping sounds followed as the runners crossed the timing mats at the Start. The 6km runners were flagged off an hour later. And not long after that, 17 minutes after the flag-off, the first winner for 6km crossed the line! A few minutes after that, the timekeepers took their places near the finishing line to record the time of the incoming runners. The first winner for the 26km run arrived at an unbelievable time of 1:25 minute! That's 12 minutes faster from last year! One by one the runners came in through the finishing chute, their faces etched with smiles of satisfaction for completing the distance. Whatever the distance is, challenges like these requires a strong mental ability to complete it despite the threatening muscle cramps, the bonking against each other due to insufficient food intake before the race, the psychology of someone chunkier or older or younger overtaking you during your run. While queuing up for the delicious nasi lemak and cendol for breakfast, loud music could be heard from the open field near the food tent. The loud music was actually from the free-for-all aerobics session that is one of the weekend rituals at the Youth Park. This certainly showed that the people in Penang takes good care of their health by sweating it out in group activities like these. Prizes were presented by State Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi and Head of Corporate Affairs, En Yusop Rashid. Although the top prizes for the 26km Men Open category were dominated by Africans, it was refreshing to see our homegrown athletes, be it full-time or not, winning in the other categories – standing on the podium with their prizes. Malakoff has once again delivered its commitment to Sports, which is one of the components of the Malakoff Community Partnerships (MCP). With the organizers of the Malakoff 26km Penang Run, Malakoff has achieved its objectives – to encourage sportsmanship and competitiveness in sports. Congratulations to all finishers!
