  • Malakoff’s Prai Power Plant Wins NOSH Excellence Award 2017

Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff’s Prai Power Plant Wins NOSH Excellence Award 2017 15 November 2017 16 November 2017, Kuala Lumpur – Prai Power Plant (“PPP”), wholly-owned by Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”), today won the National Occupational Safety and Health (“NOSH”) Excellence Award 2017 for the Energy Facility category, from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (“DOSH”), under the Ministry of Human Resources, in a ceremony held at The Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur. The prestigious NOSH Excellence Award is a recognition at the national level for individuals, media, journalists and various organizations with excellent track records in its occupational health and safety practices at the workplace. The awards comprise 27 categories whereby shortlisted nominees from all over Malaysia underwent vigorous audits by DOSH before they were named winners in their respective categories. Ir. Mohd Raziff Embi, Plant Manager of PPP was humbled and honoured that the plant was selected as the winner this year. “I’m pleased to see that health and safety practices have become a second nature to the staff and that the efforts taken to uphold the best practices paid off. Besides applying it at work, they made it a habit to implement them everywhere they go, be it at the plant or at home.” PPP always strives to follow the guidelines set by DOSH and endeavours to perform one step higher than the stated guidelines to ensure that it covered all aspects and possibilities. At work, the morning meetings start with a briefing on health, safety and environment issues before proceeding to delegating tasks and addressing other arising matters. In addressing the safety concerns of staff at work, PPP has a 1 kilometer designated bicycle lane for staff from the Administration building to the process area. The roads surrounding the said areas were also made one-way for other vehicles to protect the safety of bicycle users. Another notable initiative taken by PPP to ensure the staff’s health is taken care of is by having a wellness center within its vicinity. The wellness center is equipped with blood pressure and glucose monitoring devices and staff are given wellness passport where they are able to self-check and monitor their health progress. It also acts as an initial check point if they noticed a drop in their health condition before proceeding to see a doctor for further examination. “This initiative enables the staff to be aware and interested in their own health. It also creates a support group where they encourage each other to lead a healthy lifestyle and avoid unhealthy habits such as smoking and having a sedentary lifestyle,” added Raziff. Commenting on winning the award, Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff, YBhg. Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said, “This award is a recognition of our health and safety practices being implemented at our power plants. In addition to operating our power plants according to the industry’s standards and best practices, we have ensured health and safety best practices are well entrenched as part of our working culture.” “At Malakoff, we take health and safety matters very seriously. We hold various health and safety awareness programmes across the Group as an effort to continuously emphasize on its importance at the workplace. Such programmes have also brought our staff together and created a deep sense of belonging and camaraderie amongst staff when they are actively involved in these activities,” he added.

Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Contributes to Ease the Burden of the Mukim Serkat Community 10 March 2021 On 11 March 2021, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) donated RM21,300 from its Corporate ‘Wakalah Zakat’ Fund to the students of Kawasan 1, Mukim Serkat in Pontian, Johor as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiative. The handover ceremony was officiated by Tanjung Bin Power (“TBP”) Plant Manager, Encik Kopli Bin Yunus and the village chief of Mukim Serkat, Encik Zool Shuhaifi Bin Hassim at Masjid Al-Amin Kg Sg Dinar, while adhering to strict Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (“SOPs”). The aim of this initiative is to ease the burden of the parents in the form of school fees and other basic school necessities before the start of the school year. 184 students from two primary schools (SK Sungai Boh and SK Seri Sinaran Chokoh) and a secondary school (SMK Sri Kukup) will be benefiting from this donation. Encik Zool Shuhaifi expressed how grateful he was for Malakoff’s contribution to the community. “Last year has been an exceptionally challenging year for everyone, especially those with children due to the uncertainty of the current economy that has cost a lot of small businesses here, affecting their income and family expenses. Furthermore, the kids seem to have lost motivation to continue with school and commit to their education as some have not stepped foot in their school compound for almost a year”. “Hopefully, this contribution can serve as a morale boost for both the parents and the students to re-start their lives in this new norm”, he added. The Group’s CSR activities continue to be a cornerstone of its foundation for sustainable development, as we work closely with the local communities to ensure that their needs and well being are taken care of.

  • Malakoff Selected As Finalist for PwC Malaysia's Building Trust Awards 2017

Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Selected As Finalist for PwC Malaysia's Building Trust Awards 2017 6 September 2017 Kuala Lumpur, 6 September 2017 – Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) was selected as one of the finalists in PwC Malaysia’s Building Trust Awards 2017 that was held last night at Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Malakoff is among an elite group of 20 leading Malaysian organizations short-listed through its robust assessment and judging process. During the event, Sime Darby Bhd was crowned the winner for its efforts in building trust with its stakeholders. Amongst the finalists, other than Malakoff, were Alliance Financial Group Berhad, Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad, Axiata Group Berhad, CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, DiGi.com Berhad, Fraser & Neave Holdings Berhad, Gamuda Berhad, IHH Healthcare Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank), Maxis Berhad, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, PETRONAS, Public Bank Berhad, SP Setia Berhad, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Westports Holdings Berhad and YTL Corporation Berhad. Conceived in 2015 with the inaugural Awards, the Building Trust Awards assesses how companies perform in their corporate reporting as well as how they are perceived in the eyes of their stakeholders including customers and investors. The Awards are the first in Malaysia to employ a distinctive way of measuring trust, beyond the financials of the companies assessed. The companies were selected and then evaluated by PwC before a final shortlist of 20 is presented for face-to-face deliberation by an independent panel of judges that comprises regulators and “thought leaders” in corporate reporting and building trust issues. PwC Malaysia managing partner, Sridharan Nair said that the winning companies had shown that building trust begins with a conscious effort to engage important stakeholders. He added that the winning companies had also demonstrated a keen understanding of how trust can promote business growth. “The time is ripe for businesses to close the trust gap and rebuild faith in institutions, as the world at large continues to be weighed down by declining levels of trust in governments, institutions and businesses,” said Sri. Speaking on the Awards, Habib Husin, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff, said that being selected as a finalist was a recognition of Malakoff’s efforts in being a good corporate citizen. “Malakoff has been in the power industry for more than two decades and we endeavor to implement the best practices in our reporting, including clear disclosure of strategic priorities, linked to quantifiable KPIs and a broad overview of the business outlook. In addition to that, we continually strive to give a good impact to the local communities where we operate,” he added.
