- Malakoff Produces First Batch of Lean Six Sigma Graduates
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Produces First Batch of Lean Six Sigma Graduates 2 April 2018 Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) held the graduation ceremony for the first batch of its Lean Six Sigma (“LSS”) Green Belt graduates on 3 April 2018 at Malakoff Academy of Excellence. The graduation ceremony, held in conjunction with Corporate Affairs and Stakeholder Management Division (“CASM”) Open Day, recognised 23 Green Belters who have successfully completed their training in 2017. Lean Six Sigma or LSS is a powerful process improvement methodology that combines the tools of two quality management concepts, namely “Lean” and “Six Sigma”. Chief Executive of Malakoff, YBhg Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali congratulated the graduates on their achievements. He added that “through the implementation of LSS, a company would be able to recognise key areas of improvement and then reduce the variations in those areas to improve quality and speed.” The Malakoff Lean Six Sigma was launched on 25 May 2017 with the view to achieve continuous operational improvements and cost reduction. It was envisioned that with LSS, waste will be removed from business processes and at the same time solve problems caused by a process, subsequently creating savings for the Company. From 2017 to 2019, Malakoff aims to train 468 of its staff in various belt categories. This year, it is expected that Malakoff will produce 60 Yellow Belts, 90 Green Belts and 15 Black Belts. By 2019, it is expected that a total of 270 Yellow Belts, 153 Green Belts, 25 Black Belts and 10 Master Black Belts will be certified. At present, Malakoff has 25 concurrent Black Belt and Green Belt projects that are in various stages of development. These projects, if implemented properly, will yield varying cost savings for the company over a long period of time. Dato’ Fuaad reminded the graduates that “LSS is not an additional burden from your current work load, but is a short-term sacrifice that will unlock benefits to the company over the long term. The full benefits of Lean Six Sigma will only be realised when applied correctly at both strategic and operational levels. Whilst the application at the operational level results in cost reduction, the application at the strategic level results in wider benefits for the organisation.” At the end of the graduation ceremony, Dato’ Fuaad and members of the Management Committee visited the booths by various sections under CASM, namely Corporate Affairs & Stakeholder Management, Risk Management, Business Process Improvement, and Group Health, Security, Safety & Environment, and external exhibitors such as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Cert Academy and the Road Safety Department (JKJR).
- Malakoff Visits Maahad Al-Ansar for Annual Gotong Royong
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Visits Maahad Al-Ansar for Annual Gotong Royong 6 April 2012 Last Saturday, volunteers from Malakoff headquarters in Kuala Lumpur once again visited Maahad Tarbiyah Islamiyah Al-Ansar to participate in the annual gotong royong that was held at the school in Kuala Selangor. The annual gotong royong is part of our corporate social responsibility platform, the Malakoff Community Partnerships, in which one of the pillars is our commitment to the Community and Education. We continue to preserve the harmony between Malakoff and its stakeholders in the communities through activities such as this. The gotong royong started with home-cooked breakfast to fuel the participants for the long list of tasks that awaited them. Volunteers from Malakoff and students from the school were then divided into teams to carry out tasks during the gotong royong. Malakoff has been helping this school since 2002, not just financially but also in-kind by volunteering our time, efforts and “tulang 4 kerat” to improve the condition of this school and create a more conducive environment for the children’s studies and development. From a school with less than 100 students in 2002, it has grown with time and now 230 students reside at the school. The students are mainly orphans and the under privileged. Electricians comprising of Malakoff staff also lent a hand to install new wall fans in the classrooms and repaired existing fans for the comfort of the students and checked the wiring as a safety precaution. We were proud to see that the multi-purpose court that was constructed during gotong-royong last year had already been used by the students and staff for sport practices and tournaments. The one-hour activity period from 5.30 to 6.30 pm daily saw many students take this opportunity to get together with friends to hone their skills in sepak takraw, volleyball and badminton. Several inter-school tournaments of sepak takraw, volleyball and badminton were held at the school on this court that we had helped to construct. A year before, they had to be contented with playing badminton or volleyball with a court on uneven ground and makeshift net posts. We were also glad to see that 10 computers and 1 printer that were also donated to the school during gotong royong last year were put into good use by the school. We understood that the items are used by all students and at least 50 students from the fifth and fourth forms used it consistently for their assignments using Microsoft Words and Excel. In this age of IT literacy, we hoped this small contribution that we made to the students of Al-Ansar will help prepare them for the fast-paced rat-race that awaits them after they leave the school. After the tasks of cleaning the drains, toilets in boys’ and girls’ hostels, classrooms, grass-cutting and clearing rubbish in the vicinity of the school, everyone helped themselves with sumptuous lunch that were cooked in the school’s kitchen. Prior to the gotong royong, monetary contributions were collected from Malakoff staff at the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. The collection of RM5870 in cash was presented to the school, together with several clothing items and reading materials. 50 packets of 5kg rice, donated by Padi Beras Nasional Berhad (Bernas) were also presented to the school during the gotong royong. Headmaster of Maahad Tarbiyah Islamiyah Al-Ansar, Ustaz Sazli Ansari, on behalf of the staff and students of the school, thanked Malakoff from the bottom of their hearts. “Malakoff has been with us since 2002 and has been very attentive to our needs. Year in, year out, Malakoff has helped in making the condition of the school more conducive for the students to live in and study,” he said. Thank you and God bless to those who were present physically and in spirit in making this gotong royong a success! May we have the opportunity again next year to give back to the society, especially our stakeholders in the community.

After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, teams from both sides were eager to meet again on the pitch in this traditional event that brought together top players from the respective sides. Both teams were vying for the coveted Challenge Trophy which was last won by Malakoff in 2019. The players entered the field and took their position before the referee blew the whistle at sharp 8:30 PM, with both sides getting off to a great start with concerted attempts at both sides of the pitch. Despite the heavy downpour, the players put up a spirited display in what turned out to be an entertaining match, cheered on by supporters from both sides. The second half began with an offensive game from both teams after a much-needed respite. The teams played a more heated game in the second half, with Malakoff making several attempts to score to level the game. However, luck was not on our side as the ST team held on to their lead. After a closely fought match, ST’s lone goal proved the difference as ST emerged as the champions and took home the Challenge Trophy for this year. The event helped to foster camaraderie between Malakoff and ST while enhancing the working relationship between both parties. It was a great opportunity for both sides to display their sportsmanship while competing for the trophy. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the match and the spectators were certainly treated to an entertaining showdown between both sides. - Tanjung Bin Power Plant Organises E-Waste Recycling Drive
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Tanjung Bin Power Plant Organises E-Waste Recycling Drive 7 November 2022 In conjunction with the National Environment Day that falls on 21st October ever year, Tanjung Bin Power Plant (“TBPP”) held an E-Waste Recycling Drive that ran from 17th October 2022 until 4th November 2022. This activity was part of the plant’s efforts to raise awareness among staff on disposing electronic devices through the right channels and measures to ensure environmental health and safety. This initiative is also a collaborative effort between TBPP and Malakoff’s subsidiary, Alam Flora Environmental Solutions (“AFES”). With the aim of garnering as much participation as possible, the recycling drive witnessed involvement of not just TBPP and Tanjung Bin Energy (“TBE”) Power Plant staff but also the in-house contractors. All participants played their role to dispose their used electronic devices at the designated bins provided by AFES. The top three participants with the highest E-Waste contribution (based on weight calculation) would then go on to win prizes at the closing ceremony, which was held on 7th November 2022. In total, 1.48 MT of E-Waste was collected from the recycling drive. Throughout the programme, informative and educational posters on E-Waste and its recycling process as well as its impact on our health were circulated to further promote understanding of E-Waste and the environment. Such facts served as a motivational factor for participants to not only act upon it themselves, but to also encourage their friends and family to do the same. During the closing ceremony, TBPP Manager Encik Kopli bin Yunus was given the honour to present certificates and prizes to the first-prize winner, Encik Ali Kohar Mohamed from TBPP with a total collection of 284 kg of E-Waste, followed by the second-prize winner, Puan Nurisma binti Md Omar from TBPP with 253.2 kg of E-Waste collection. Encik Mohd Rahimi bin Ibrahim from TBPP won third place with total E-Waste collection of 212.6 kg. Consolation prizes were also distributed to seven other participants for their relentless effort. The cooperation and teamwork displayed throughout the drive was proof of the #TeamMalakoff spirit of striving for the best to fulfil a common goal. This initiative is part of Malakoff’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 – Sustainable Consumption and Production that focuses on circular economy where products and materials can be reused, remanufactured, recycled or recovered and thus maintained in the economy while hazardous waste is avoided or minimised, and greenhouse gas emissions are eventually prevented or reduced. We would like to thank everyone involved for their support and effort and we hope to see a higher participation next year.

- Surviving through Turtle Conservation
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Surviving through Turtle Conservation 11 November 2011 It was a cold morning, with the rain splashing on the windowsill and the wind blowing strongly outside. It was a good morning for sleeping in but for some 30 volunteers from Malakoff, nothing was more important than making sure the day’s program went smoothly. The volunteers came from the surrounding Lumut and Pantai Remis, and as far as Kuala Lumpur to take part in the Turtle Awareness program, aptly called “Kenali Penyu, Sayangi Penyu”. The program, organized by a team from Malakoff Leadership Development Program (LDP), aimed to create awareness to the surrounding community on the function of Pusat Pengurusan Penyu Pasir Panjang (Turtle Management Center) or TMC, for short. 40 schoolchildren, accompanied by their teachers, were smiling and chatted cheerfully despite the cold and gloomy weather. These children were invited from Malakoff’s three adopted schools in Segari, Perak and a school from neighbouring Manjung, SK Seri Bayu. After receiving goodie bags containing stationery sets, the children and teachers helped themselves to a light breakfast of nasi goreng, currypuff and tepung bungkus, before the start of the program. Assistant Vice President of Technical Support Group, En Shokri Daud, in his opening remarks, expressed his hope that the children and local community who attended the program that morning were able to learn as much as they can from this inaugural event and return to their communities with better knowledge and awareness on the importance of TMC as a conservation initiative by Jabatan Perikanan Negeri Perak. He added that “Kenali Penyu, Sayangi Penyu” was the brainchild of LDP 2011 CSR Project Team HSE as a part of their contribution to the Commitment to the Environment, under the Malakoff Community Partnerships (MCP), Malakoff’s corporate social responsibility platform. Representative from Jabatan Perikanan Negeri Perak, En Sallehuddin in his officiating speech, praised Malakoff for coming up with this brilliant program in creating awareness to the local community on the existence of the Center and in educating the schoolchildren about the importance of turtle conservation. He pointed out that the idea to create the Center in 1991 came about to ensure turtle eggs were protected from being sold or eaten by the locals. The Center is also vital in ensuring the eggs were hatched and the hatchlings were released into the sea to continue the turtle’s cycle of life. "People need to be educated in order to better appreciate the significance of the turtles in the ecosystem, so that both men and turtles can co-exist.” Fun-filled and educational activities awaited the schoolchildren, starting from a colouring contest followed by guided tour to the turtles’ hatchery, nursery tank and turtle pools by the program’s volunteers, consisted of Malakoff staff. The children were attentive all through the guide as they would be quizzed later on the facts and figures about the turtles at the Center. The highlight of the visit and the most anticipated segment of the program was the release of turtle hatchlings into the sea by the children and volunteers. Volunteers, teachers and schoolchildren held and posed with the hatchlings before releasing them into the sea. Undeniably, there was a slight feeling of sadness as they watched the hatchlings made their way with their cute flippers on the beach and washed away into the sea by the strong current of the waves. Some of them were quietly praying that they hatchlings will survive the unforgiving ocean, grow and return to the beach of Pasir Panjang to lay their eggs in future. Teacher of Sekolah Kebangsaan Segari, Cik Rashidah expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Malakoff for organizing such program. “This program is an eye-opener to me, personally and to the students on the importance of turtles to the ecosystem. Humans have damaged and endangered them in many ways. It is recommended that such program is continued and extended to the locals to create more awareness on turtles and this Center.” The excited faces of the children, getting a chance to touch and hold the hatchlings, and in awe of the gentleness of the creature, were priceless. The volunteers were happy that the efforts that they put in into making the program a success were worthwhile. Mohd Nizam Baharin, the program’s project leader, was relieved that the program went as planned, despite the spots of rain that morning. “We were here two weeks earlier for a gotong royong to spruce up the buildings and vicinity of the Center. The gotong royong is part of our small contribution to the Center in making it more comfortable for the visitors.” He added that during the planning and execution of the program, the team members and volunteers learnt a lot about the turtles and together with the Center’s management committee, they hoped that this program will be an on-going effort to educate more people on the importance of turtles, hence the tag line “Kenali Penyu, Sayangi Penyu” was chosen as the program’s title.

The event was organized at JW Marriott, Safat, Kuwait City. The 2nd townhall session followed the success of the first ever Malakoff overseas townhall meeting held inside the power plant on 21st September 2011. The townhall was a pleasant surprise for Malakoff Kuwait staff, especially with the plant’s official start of the 2012 critical summer operation. 18 Malakoff staff grouped together along side special guests who came all the way from Malaysia, namely Chief Executive Officer, En Zainal Abidin Jalil, SVP En Nordin, En Shokri, and En Mokhtar, among others. The management visit coincided with the bid submission for Shuaibah O&M at noon of the same day. The staff dressed proudly in their Malakoff corporate shirts and special black jackets to show a sense of belonging to the company and the site they represent. The event started with dinner at 7:15pm at the Hotel La Brasserie restaurant before shifting to Salhiya room for the townhall session. The townhall session started at 8:15pm with a short refreshing view clip of the Malakoff Kuwait 1st townhall and the 1st Malakoff Kuwait Family Day held at Wafra Desert on 22nd March 2012. The review of our past successes bolstered the spirit of achievement, teamwork and family bond within Malakoff people. En Zainal started the townhall with an energetic speech, followed by a fruitful Q&A session from the floor. He described Malakoff’s way forward, key drivers and future expansion in the pipeline. The target of achieving or doubling Malakoff generation was a vision imparted and shared by all staff. Among questions asked were on Malakoff Kuwait and middle-east expansion, in particular the recent AlHidd project, Shuaibah and Azzour CCPP expansion. On Malakoff listing news, En Zainal responded with good news that Malakoff may be back in KLSE by next year. On the retirement age of 60 years, En Zainal informed that the company will look into it once the government has made this enforcement to private companies. It was such a pleasure and homely feeling to have the CEO talking, listening and responding, a dejavu feeling for most of the staff who felt as if they were in LPP club house, a nostalgic place for most of them. The townhall meeting ended at 10:30pm with ‘kopi’ and get together sessions. The lovely evening was ended with a group photo, with the hotel chandelier and decoration as the backdrop. Everyone was proud to host the meaningful event that brought the staff closer to their beloved company, Malakoff and home base, Malaysia.
- Malakoff 4th Annual Charity Ride 2009
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff 4th Annual Charity Ride 2009 16 April 2009 The 4th Annual Malakoff Charity Ride concluded 10 days ago but the sights and sounds of the ride still lingers in my mind. Cyclists hanging on to support vehicles as their thighs and calves cramped, the vast paddy fields as far as the eyes can see and local folks happily waving to the passing peloton were some of the many familiar sights as we headed for our 3-day ride from Yan, Kedah to Krabi, Thailand, via Wang Kelian and Trang. This was the furthest and most challenging ride so far held by Malakoff, at 530km in distance. On the first day itself, the cyclists have to face tough terrains in Perlis and the last 10km of the 190km was the nastiest climb ever in Malakoff’s charity ride history. Even the toughest of cyclists gave up on the last 5km of the ride as the climb was very steep. The second day, with a total distance of 180km, cyclists braved themselves in the rain for almost half of the ride. They started riding from the border of Wang Kelian at approximately 8am (Thailand time) and passing through peaceful Muslim villages in Thailand. The foreign signboards greeted the cyclists as they went by. The roads were as beautiful as the vast natural landscape as the road shoulders were wide and potholes were almost non-existent. The rain that soaked the cyclists halfway through the ride didn’t dampen their spirits. In fact, not many cyclists stopped to nurse their cramps! Maybe it’s because the route was only slightly undulating and thankfully less rolling to cause cramps. The superb home-cooked lunch welcomed the cyclists and crew near Tom Yam town that were eagerly devoured by the hungry cyclist. At approximately 3pm the cyclists arrived in Watana Park Hotel in Trang for a well-deserved rest. In Trang, some took the opportunity to treat themselves to Thai massages that costs around RM30 for 2 hours while some went into the town and visited the night market for some souvenirs. The third day was blazing hot for the finale. Although the day started with a 10-minute ride in the rain, the cyclists were fooled into thinking that the day would be cloudy throughout and their skins would be saved from sun tan. It was hot all the way from kilometer 50 onwards that forced them to drink at least every 10 minutes on the bike. Some even had to stop to take a leak as the volume of water that they had consumed on the bikes threatened to burst their bladders. At last, they reached Krabi Heritage Hotel in Krabi at approximately 4pm, all satisfied and sunburnt. After reaching the 530-kilometer mark from the start, the cyclists set aside the aches and pains for a while to take the opportunity to photograph their arrival in Krabi as a proof that their weekly training had paid off. Congratulations to all cyclists and the wonderful supporting crew and see you again next year for another edition of Malakoff Charity Ride! A big thank you to En Ahmad Jauhari continuous support for the Ride and to the committee for organizing this event! Facts of the ride: The charity ride managed to collect RM 73, 880 from Newwin Engineering, Alstom Services, Rajah & Tann, Allianz Insurance, Algo Tech, Integrated Engineering Services, Sime Darby Energy PDP, Malaysian Coal Integrated Engineering, Sterling Insurance Brokers, Teknologi Tenaga Perlis Consortium, Global E-Teknik, Genting Sanyen Power, Inno Quantum, ISHI Power, KAF Investment Bank, Petronas Gas, Rangkai Positif, Shakab Enterprise, Sumi Power Malaysia, TOS Energy, Bank Rakyat, Al Rajhi Bank, Alcim Technology, Aras Marine, Bank Muamalat Malaysia, Tita Tech Engineering, Randy Tan & Ivie Ong, CIMB Islamic Bank, Rentak Jitu, PBJV Group, Dyna Dinamik, Zastra.
